Hi everyone! Susanna has a few crows feet around her drivers door latch, Is there any reason I shouldn't just run over them with the welder? Do Minis commonly develop cracks? Has anyone seen similar before? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hmmm, too much rallycross? Serious though, maybe poor previous body repair? |

weird... I wonder if thats left over from it being stretched back in to shape after an accident any evidence of accident damage? in answer to your question, no, don't normally develop cracks like that Looks like an 850 going by that door catch? |

I've seen these quite a few times...I think they are reasonably common (some are more forceful with Mini doors than others) ![]() |

yeah this is really common, door pillars are not really the strongest part of the car &,,, to be able to resist damage from all the people slamming the "poorly adjusted/sagging" door, from worn hinges over the last 50 years is asking quite a lot really that is a very early car you have there going by the early style catch so yes pretty common for such an early car just weld em up & Bob`s your Aunty ![]() |

Where ya going Sime?? Someplace tropical ![]() ![]() I think that 850 doors are also heavier (gauge for a start) than the wind up types (even with a window winder mechanism) but I am probably wrong on that ![]() |

My 1962 Morris 850 has these cracks. The car was "bare metal" rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago and the panelbeater said it was a very straight body so not crash damage related. Like Matt said it's just due to wear and tear, after all the cars are over 50 years old now. |

And yes, it's an early 850 (1963) So, just I think I'll just run a MIG over them and be done. Unless a fine TIG bead would be better (neater, but probably not as strong in this case) |

Well I'd imagine the best way to repair it would be to either weld it then hammer it in or vise versa just so the weld is still strong but not sitting too proud on the body....any panelbeaters have a suggestion? |

yeah my 62 850 also has this on the drivers door, certainly no accident as it still has the original fllors and booet etc, when i got the car some 18 years ago it had been fitted with wind up window doors and poorly adjusted too as Matt mentioned. Grant |
