What should I do with the one from the rocker cover? Feed it back to the air filter?

Ryan , just looking at your engine pic again , it looks like your breather from your gearbox housing should be plumbed into the inlet manifold via a PCV valve :idea:

It appears that your engines breathing is just going around in a circle , ie , beathing out the Tappet cover as well as the gearbox housing into the atmosphere via the small filter .

Does your engine have chest covers ?

One problem with using that flywheel housing breather and a PCV valve is the primary gear tosses oil up it at high rpm on long LH bends.. as I found out at Wakefield Pk on the fishhook.

I fixed this by running the breather from the rocker cover. I have connected the flywheel housing to the rocker cover with some 12mm OD nylon air line and push fittings. This equalises crankcase pressure top to bottom, so there is less chance of oil getting trapped up in the valve gear than otherwise.

Will post my flickr pics when I work out how (now have mac)

Ok, inspired by another recent thread, I have decided to fix up my breathers. This is my current setup. Both take of points on the manifold have been sealed up with som kind of silastic like product? How should it be done? What PCV valve do I need? How am I best to approach it? I really want to get rid of the fumes in the cabin. Ryan

Does it have two pipes feeding the silly filter? Get rid of the silly breather. Get a PCV valve from Auto1 and hook it to the manifold. This is how my one is done. How it works, fresh air is drawn in to the motor via the oil cap breather. Crankcase fumes are sucked out from the clutch housing breather to the inlet manifold via an in-line PCV valve.

What fitting do I need for the manifold? You might as well hook both the outlets (the clutch housing and the rocker cover) to the single PCV valve. Yes it is the PCV013 that you can order in from any good parts place. The fitting for the inlet manifold is a BMC part and you will need to get it from a Mini parts place (or an MG parts place) The part number is 12H1405.

I have read on here , quite some time ago , that you can can experience more cabin fumes with a centre exit exhaust , not sure if this is true or not , as my car has side exit .

Hmmm, that's interesting. I always thought that as long a the exhaust made it out past the rear of the car you were all good.

Yep, the car creates a low pressure area behind it and the exhaust fumes just roll along. If the boot seal is tired the fumes can get sucked into the car. A slightly longer exhaust tip may help. Fix the breathers, if the problem persists fix the boot seal.

Thanks dr. Where were the crank case breathers run to from the factory?
