Not wanting to get into a HP / dyno war of words, but i am interested in engine specs and cams used in chasing flat wide torque curves, specifically those giving 90-100+lbs/ft of torque. A swiftune SW8 to start off. http://www.swiftune.com/Product/1447/swiftune-sw8-billet-camshaft.aspx used 1380/1.5rr Just curiosity, not buying or building at the moment. and I don't have any dynos of my own so sorry |

C/R 10.5:1. Fuel BP98 Ultimate. Note with a 45 Dellorto on instead, and 38mm chokes in, torque was only 107ft/lb, and HP was 114. But yes it sounded tuffer. ![]() [edit] miniDave's 1330 rally motor made about 97ft/lb last year on the same engine dyno, it has RE13 cam, 1.5:1 `forged' MSC rockers, near stock Mk2S head (GR profiled seats) and twin HS4s. I will bung the chart up here when I've found it.... Thanks gents, love those curves, or as Micheal suggests non-curves since they are so flat. Benjamin good to see the little guys (albeit with Turbo) getting in amongst it, ALL of those curves have excellent low down pulling power and/but are primed for both HP and torque in the 5500 -6000 range. To me these seem like excellent fit for purpose builds. Differences in final drives?- and also Michael and benjamin what cams? (sorry Michael, saw your build specs link thus time) Keep them coming. |

The power comes at the higher revs simply because power = torque x revs ![]() I also have a 3.44. Seems to be ideal for what i use it for. Racers traditionally went for lower final drives with a close ratio gearset to keep the engine reving it's nut off because the torque curve was very peaky. With such a wide torque curve there is no advantage to keeping it revving all the time. Mine is also RE282. However, as you see from the build spec, there is a fair amount of head work and stroking going on. cheers michael |

I have an RE282 in my 1360, with 1.5 rockers. It made 86.6HP ATW (ausmini dyno day)- GR says it would have ~125HP at the crank. It runs a 3.647 diff in a Clubby GT box. No idea what the torque actually is (it's not been on the engine dyno) but I'd say it would be north of 105ft/lb. The 940 head was ported before I got it, it now flows about 120cfm on GR's flowbench. The 282 cam and 1.5 rocker combo gives max power at around 7000-7200, however it will pull away clean from 40kmh in 4th gear since I jetted the Dellorto 45 properly with an A/F ratio meter. Graham says an RE282 cam is worth 10HP over an RE13 any day of the week, but you do lose a bit of midrange torque so he doesn't recommend it for a daily driver. It's all fun from 5000-8000rpm though! ![]() |

Hi Indigo , i too would consider it flat...... excellent Doc and others is the 282 cam the one i've heard of as the diesel cam? - same profile as early or modified since first out or NLA???? |

No the `diesel cam' is the RE83. It has shorter duration and quite aggressive acceleration on the lobes, Graham doesn't usually recommend using 1.5 rockers with it. The RE282 is his `sprint' cam- it became NLA for a while as the master got lost in Melbourne. However Graham has since made another master so it's available again if you wanted one. I think it's had a few improvements too. In my 1360 with 1.5 rockers it will take full throttle from about 2500rpm, is on cam from 2800 but really hauls ass from 5000 to redline (now set at 7500 in deference to my old Mk1 S EN40B crank...) |
