Post subject: | Clutch question |
Ok I tried to do the search function but it seems a bit of a mess in there. Ok so basically have just spent all afternoon at the mechanics trying to get the clutch to engage properly. There just doesnt seem to be enough pressure getting from the pedal to the clutch arm ?. A while back i got a recond master cylinder and new slave cylinder installed (not at current mechanics). Now we checked the ball on the bottom of shaft (all good). We replaced clevase? pin and pin at the pedal(bottom of the master cylinder) Its been bled properly and we even pulled down the master cylinder and put a new kit in it. So any ideas why we cant get the hydrolics to push the arm? The new master cylinder is a 7 and i dont know what was in there before. The mechanic said we should try a 7.5 any comments on this change and if it will make a difference. Help please unit |

You only need small amounts of wear in the linkage to add to no clutch. Is the arm straight? check the clevis that the arm pivots on and also the hole in the arm. I doubt that there is no wear at the bottom of the arm unless it has been replaced in the last few years. There may not seem to be a lot but it all adds up. Doc would know how much is too much at the bottom of the arm. These arms get a flat on the thrust face was it totally round? In the end it is most probably wise to replace the whole lot and have done with it. |

yeah Makka we could adjust the clutch to work properly whilst i was in the car and Ivan was pulling on the arm from the slave cylinder. (if that makes cents) So when i had the clutch pushed he could still pull anothe inch or so out of the slave cylinde and the clutch would work. It like there isnt enough fluid pressure pushing the slave cylinder pin out. unit |

Hi Chris, The Arm end was definatellty ok. Ivan said it was one of the original pre 71 types and in excellent condition. we did change the pin that was marginally worn and this was all running fine 7 years ago( last time driven ) with the old master clylinder and slave cylinder in Now i guess at the time i should have got the old master and slave cylinders of those muppets on the nth beaches but i didnt. Does any one know if there is allot of difference in the 7 and 7.5 master cyliders unit |

Yes get a .75" clutch MC, it moves more oil and makes a lot of difference. Every Mini I've driven with a 0.70" clutch MC has been marginal at best. ![]() <edit> On later cars with the alloy MCs with plastic reservoirs, it's easy to mix them up as both will fit clutch or brake. Most Minis run a 0.70" brake MC, and all should have a a 0.75" clutch MC. |

Thanks Doc thats what we thought we would have to do. I guess thats what was in there before. I wish those dicks had replaced it with what was in it in the first place and me and Ivan would have to have stuffed around with it all afternoon. So does anyone want my newly purchased .7 master cylinder? apparently my car has regected it. unit |
