My 997 cooper has a slight harshness to the motor it would be lucky to have done 20 miles everything was balanced, I can feel it when you drive it or rev it , like it has tight mounts or exhaust pipe touching but I've checked that all out(unless new mounts are to hard) and started it with steady off and engine mount bolts removed off subframe on driver/side but still there it has the 2 piece harmonic balancer on it would that be a problem I can still put my nails in the rubber or were they no good to start with, I have the flywheel of I was checking to make sure I never put back together out of whack may get it rechecked yet other than pull it down or just put it back together and drive it I'm a bit stumped |

You seem to be describing a vibration....or is the engine rocking around? (harshness is such a harsh word) ![]() [I have heard the opposite for new engine mounts, too soft rather than too hard] |

A similar thing happened to me when I last changed the motor. Using the softest engine mounts I could find (good SH, and not the ones with ribs in the metal part) pretty much fixed it. It might pay to make sure there is no strain on the exhaust as well. |
