Hi all,

I seem to have lost reverse gear after I have rebuilt a g/box and I cannot seem to find out why.

I can select reverse position and turn the input gear but no output through the mainshaft and pinion gear, could this be the 2ng gear pin in in the wrong hole?

Any thoughts

Thanks guys

Grant

I've only ever rebuilt 4 synchro boxes, but you didn't put the reverse idler gear in backwards did you?

No, it could only go in one way from memory, one end had has a larger OD and could not sit in the right spot.
Just don't get it, might call GR and see if he might know.

Yeah I am sure it is John as I can see both rows of teeth when selected.

I think that the lay gear, idler and synchro ring gear all need to align and engage, but the synchro gear sits towards the input side of the lay and reverse idler gear....

Or am I off??!

Thanks all, John you were right, I could hear and move the linkages and see reverse gear move but just not enough, spin the mainshaft a tad and a bit more oomph and she is all the way in.

Thanks again.

ahh, just like when the engine is running and you can't get it in reverse, so select 1st gear then have another go at reverse - love a simple non-solution to a non-problem :)

You got the right, seemed to be enough to move the gear but not fully engage it.
