Hey guys. Im in the process of bodywork on my 68 deluxe and im unsure on the body filler process. I have been told to do body filler straight to bare metal by some and have been told by others its ok to do over primer. Im using an etch primer if that helps Thankyou in advance Rodney |

Bog should only be over bare metal (the only exception I know of is over Por15). |

You should always put primer or primer surfacer over etch primer before colour too. |

Hi boomini, ive been restoring cars for over 34 years now and we always apply body filler over 2pack epoxy thats been sanded. and then sandwich with a couple more coats of epoxy. it seals the porus body filler and eliminates sink back. also make sure that you use wax and grease remover between applications of filler to avoid any nasty supprises later on. |

Cheers stuart. The readon I ask is because the bog im removing has cracked and allowed water to get down to the metal and rust. Rodney |

that's one of the downfalls of applying over bare steel. One of the big problems we have up here in the tropics is that bare metal rusts so fast . Any bare metal restos that we do are only stripped and primed in the middle of the year when the humidity is at its lowest. |

So what would have cause the bog to crack? Im guessing too much hardener or moisture was already there when bog wad put on. Whats the difference between 2pac primer and normal primer |

single pack etch goes over bare steel followed by primer surfacer then topcoat colour .they dry by solvent evaporation, 2 pack is exactly as it says . 2 parts. the primer and the catalyst. they usually have a higher film build and higher adhesion. If your going to topcoat in Acrylic Lacquer use the correct primers underneath. And if using 2pack topcoat use 2pack primers If you don't it may result in delamination of the topcoat down the track |

sorry. and the rusty steel was probably from moisture between steel and filler it starts to oxidise and then theres no adhesion resulting in the filler starting to lift. |
