Post subject:  Mini Horn Help?

Hi I'm putting my mini on club rego on Saturday but it has no horn the wires have been put in when the harness was made. I attached the horn to the wires

The Purple wire near the steering column where should that go? If I touch the steering Column with the purple wire the horn works but stays on

the car has a original deluxe steering wheel which the push button may be set up wrong on the column?
any help would be great thanks

12 volts comes from the fuse, through the horn and up to the steering column. The 12 volts is grounded to the steering column when you press the button causing the horn to sound.

You have everything fine up until the column. The purple wire should enter the column to go up the center to the horn button under the steering wheel center. It is at the button that the horn is grounded to the column. It jumps the gap to the rotating column via a copper slip ring and brush. Check to see that the brush and slip ring is connected to their respective wires. Try grounding manually at the top of the column as well.

The purple wire hooks to the blinker switch wires and makes contact with the column at the slip ring
