Post subject:  Rod change switch interfering with gearlever?

Hi All,

The other day I re-wired the reverse switch for my rod change back in. It hasn't had the wires since I've owned it - I found the old wires had been cut off, probably because they had been damaged. So I ran some new wires through the bulkhead and down to the switch. The old reverse switch had been broken (the actual switch bit had broken off). So I cut back the thread by a few mm and wound it in. Worked like a charm.

The issue now is that I can't select 2nd gear. It occurred to me that the gear lever may be fouling on the switch, however if I wind the switch out any further, it no longer works. I think the next step is to just buy a new switch (I was wanting to get this done as soon as possible, which is why I didn't in the first place), but is there any other reason this could happen?

So I had a bit more of a play yesterday, and had some progress. I can now select 2nd gear, but it's a bit stiff to get into. Sometimes I just can't, but hopefully it will always work when driving.

The switch is no the problem (I've rules that out now), but I'm wondering if it's an issue with the location of the gear selector. It looks to be in the correct position, but the rods don't look as straight as I would expect - The engine side of the rods are further to the right of the car. And what about the angle of the selector mechanism? I've aimed to have it pretty much upright (so that the bottom plate of the selector is about parallel with the ground). If I twist it around a little further, will that make any difference?
