I use mechanical guages where possible in all my cars - they usually use the full sweep of the dial compared to electrical - makes it easier to read when fanging along...

I prefer mechanical gauges, as they are more accurate & reliable, especially considering the electrics in a mini

But make sure you do a good job of the tubing - remember it will contain hot oil under pressure :!:

Two of my mates had failures:
- sprayed hot oil over Phil's legs & nether regions in his Torana, nearly making him crash
- caused a fire in a Crown when the spotlights overloaded the wiring & melted the oil line, and Graeme is a mechanic

I used to have and electrical one but now I have fitted an original smiths mech one. Both seems to do the same job only the electrical one needed more wires :D

do you just connect it on where the oil pressure warning light goes off if its an electric?

I've used electric oil gauges in Alfas and Fiats and not only are they crap for accuracy, when a sender goes bang it costs you $100 or so to replace it.
<edit> they are not cheap like oil pressure switches are.

I like the Smiths mechanical ones.
Just watch the pipe connections, as said.

I like mechanical oil pressure gauges and electric temperature gauges.

With temperature gauges the mechanical ones can be a bit slow coming up. With trucks you would be at the bottom of a hill and the temp gauge was still going up the hill!

Ok, I have an oil pressure gauge question so ill tack it on here.

Would this electric gauge have the right pressure range to suit a mini?
I found it at work today.

I currently have a pricol mechanical one, but I broke the line, so im considering swapping to this electric one if it would suit. And if I could find a sender inexpensively.
