Hi guys I was looking at removing the engine in my 76 clubman, respraying the engine bay and block and putting new go fast chrome bits on it once i was done. I realise it would make the whole process easier if i left it to an experience mechanic to pull out the engine but I'm not too sure if its my pride or stupidity thats lead me to this decision but id love to do the engine removal myself. Im kinda fresh when it comes to working on minis so i was hoping that i could have some guidance as to which way to remove it. What is the best way, things to look out for and what not to do. Im sure this has been discussed on the forum before but i haven't had a chance to run through every thread so if there was a step by step that someone has already posted id love the link if possible. Thanks for any help you could provide :D

Have you got a workshop manual? Most of them have a step by step method to disconnecting and removing bits. I tend to grab a roll of masking tape and label each end of hoses, wiring etc and take lots of photos so I know how it goes back together.

You can also bring the engine out the top, or drop the whole subframe out the bottom, which could be a good chance to rebuild suspension bushes and other bits that are tucked away.

This is a good guide to follow viewtopic.php?f=25&t=45377

It really is a very simple job to do. Nothing to technical to removing or installing. Just use a bit of common sense, label things and take photos that you can look back at so you know what goes where and how.
