Does it make a real difference to the noise in the cab?

I got the clubman version of that at the all british day kings school off mini rich might put it on next week for the minis in the gong show

fitted the clubman version to mine came with self adhesive backing
cuts down the noise a fair bit

self adhesive backing is often not sufficient, I should have used glue as well

Installed this arvo with quick grip gel. I'm yet to test the effectiveness of the insulation.

I also have the mat that sits across the firewall behind the carbs. I noticed that it's pretty thin and made from vinyl with a felt like material on the back. It doesn't seem to be very effective. Is this whet they were made from originally? I'm thinking of adding something to the back of it.

I added an extra "circle" of under felt at the back of the speedo, that helped.

The originals were an underfelt type material glued to vinyl. The original S also had a large one piece under bonnet blanket, kind of a moulded glass matting. On the S they also fitted under felt under the parcel shelf inside the boot, on the boot floor right across under the spare, and inside the boot lid.

Excessive noise was a problem even with the original S. If you read old Wheels or Modern Motor reviews it was a major complaint. One Magazine was pulled over by the police during an early road test for excessive exhaust noise.

The insulation in the boot helps I find.

Original fire wall mat was hessian backed like old carpet under lay when i googled for a pic of the stuff up came asbestos warnings about it

I tested out the difference today. It doesn't exactly cut the noise down. It just dampens it a bit. A worthwhile addition, but still not the answer to my problem.

I saw an car under bonnet insulation type matt at clarke rubber out at Shellharbour recently. Would this do a similar job do ya think?

It came on a wide roll so I'd have to cut the triangle shapes to fit I guess. I never thought about insulating the boot and parcel shelf too, thanks Phil!

Ryan , just remember these cars are upwards of 50 yrs old now , and noise reduction wasn't at the top of the list back then , you will struggle to get them anywhere near the modern comforts that we are all enjoying nowdays .

You can cut it down a fair bit with the likes of Dynamat and other products , but there's plenty of work in it .
