Post subject:  Engine greens.
Wondering if some kind souls might post some pics of their favourite engine greens. I'm looking to bling Barneys engine bay. To set the tone, I have an alloy rocker cover, will have an alloy radiator and a we've on an anthracite manifold with an anthracite linkage. So which green should go for?

My choice- Cooper S light green metallic. From Mini King.
Which is what your motor is now, but I found later I used the wrong thinners (acrylic) when I sprayed it, so the colour & gloss is off. :oops: Should have used GP thinners. The paint is spraying enamel, but the old tins back in Mini Car Clinic days didn't say so.

Nope it got a coat of etch primer, then 2 or 3 coats of enamel. Like I said, the thinners was wrong but I didn't realise it.

This was my 1412 stroker, this green is what Greig Malaure uses on some of his engines.
I have the tin here but cannot read the code.

Was the aluminium painted from the factory when new? And was the generator ,starter motor etc painted black our the same colour as the motor?

Yes, same as the motor- 1 colour all over.
The black starter and generator were fitted, then the whole lot got painted on the assembly line, the starter is still black where it faces the block.

It sticks best if you etch prime first.
The very best etch primer for alloy was zinc chromate, however it is now banned from sale by the EPA due to being carcinogenic.
But there are many others that work, read the label first.

[edit] Septone super etch primer is OK.
