Post subject:  Have I been shafted?

...Well, I think I went a little too fast over that table-top speed bump down the street from work, and the outer CV ring couldn't hold. I know the outer spline doesn't do anything once its all together, but its machined itself off as i coasted to my work. I'm buying a new CV outer assembly, do I need to replace the shaft?

To justify my stupidity, (and not solely relying on my childhood hero's, the Dukes of Hazard) I was testing the hydrolastic system. Which is awesome by the way.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions on the shaft (please keep driving tips for another post).

Cheers, d

Replace the shaft, and put a new circlip in.
Re-using this will cause more of the same problem.

Which side are we talking? I may have a spare. I ordered one last year for the same reason, and received the wrong side  It was my bad however...

I did find however that the detent ring didn't really have any tension in it allowing the shaft to remove itself. I ended up forming one myself from spring steel (piano) wire.
