Post subject:  Piston Rings - Cast or Chrome?

Do I want chrome top ring or cast top ring pistons? I can see that the cast rings are more expensive and that the chrome is a harder material and can be harder on the bore. So is cast is the way to go?

http://minisport.com.au/prod42.htm CAST @$225

http://minisport.com.au/prod1172.htmCHROME @$199

Thanks!

Evan

Chrome ate usually $10 dearer there. The cast ones there must be fresh stock, they used to be $189.

Chrome are better for a road motor, they last longer.
It's only the top ring, the rest are the same in both sets.

NOPE, the cast Hypatecs were $189 there recently. ACLs are out of stock.

Depends on how many miles you plan on doing in your car. The chrome ones take longer to bed in and are harder on your bore. If you don't do many miles in the car I would consider cast. If you drive your car daily then chrome should be a consideration. Low bore blocks are hard to find. I prefer to protect the bore wherever possible and prefer to use cast but then again I don't use the cars very much either.

It's a daily so chrome might be the go.

I have chrome Hastings rings in the 1360, and I put plain cast rings (GR's Nippon ones) in the 1412 stroker.
Both bedded in fine and don't use much oil. Take yer pick...
