I 'm hoping to get the views of the mini elders on how safe 175/50/13 tyres are on 7" rims for street and track use. I've seen and used this combination a lot on street cars but on the track there is a lot of extra side forces which could pop a bead.

Thoughts?

I've seen A048s used on 7" rims on track minis without issues.
If you're concerned get 6" rims instead.

Thanks Harley. That's what I've got, A048R's on what I believe are 7" rims. I popped the bead on the front left at the track yesterday. I'll get the tyre taken right off and measure the rim properly.

Oh, I was running 30psi hot so I don't think it was under inflated.

I'd suggest that those pressures are too low for the fronts.
Running the same yokies on 13x7s I've never managed to unseat one

I did manage to unseat the front right on our Polo Gti at the Collie Motorplex a few months ago, as did one of the Subaru s. Just pumped it up and carried on . This was on factory rims and tyres.

Love the action shot awdmoke.

With the tyre off I discovered the rim width is actually 7 1/4". WTF? They are split rims and have the centre piece in between the rim flanges them making them 3/4" wider. So, I'll spilt the rims and rearrange the pieces to reduce the rims down to 6 1/2". Should solve that problem.

Yoko web site does say the A048r's will fit up to 7". Many other 175/50's are only recommended to fit up to 6". Mine on the split rims definitely looked stretched.

It just makes me wonder how safe many of the 175's are on 7" rims.
