G'day, Just picked up a cylinder head. It has oily, scaly deposits in one of the inlet ports. I guess it is a little like red tree sap, only more scaly. I am thinking ( hoping ) that it may just be a bit of rust scale from being out in the weather.??.. lots of carbon/oil build up in the corresponding chambers. Does this sound like anything that a little clean up won't fix?? Thanks! |

I'd clean it all up properly, then crack test it before doing anything.. I spent good money on a 1275LS head once- I fitted new guides, recut seats, did some porting etc, then when I pressure tested it (bolted 2 heads together and attached garden hose) I had a sprinkler in 1 inlet port. That explained why that valve seat was corroded bad when bought. ![]() |
