Hi All Im after a bit of advise and experiences with repainting engines. What have you guys been using?. The reason I ask is iv got a old 1948 wolseley engine and gearbox to repaint and most of the VHT spray packs dont come close has anyone used the white knight rust guard enamel with any success? Any paint will be able to handle the heat of the engine, but I have heard that some paints don't transmit heat as well as others, to the point that painting with some paints will increase the temperature of the engine. I have used rust guard a little - my brother used it on his motorbike seat base and fuel tank, and seems to still be going strong. But that's different to an engine! I have used RustKill, which is pretty much the same stuff by a different brand. I used it for my radiator and a lot of the engine brackets (engine steadys, alternator bracket thermostat bracket, solenoid mount etc). It's done pretty well, the only issue has been where I didn't do the bolts on the thermostat bracket up enough, and some hot coolant leaking out, and it blistered the paint around the bolts. |

Any enamel is better [edit- on engines and engine bays] than spray can acrylic, You can get spraying enamel mixed to your paint code & put into a spray can for $27 at VG Auto paint, for example. Should be someone near you who does this. I just did a 16 blade steel Mini yellow fan this way, it turned out really good. Colour was `wattle' off the Australian standards paint list. |

I notice my local supercheap now mix paints for aerosols. I have no idea what paints they have on offer, but they appear to have a reasonably complete colour tint range. |
