From discussion in another thread, it prompted me to remember days gone by, and what I used to lift motors.

I have some pics that will make you laugh.

I was restoring a mighty LX Torana, and had a 308 to fit. A mate loaned me his old man's hoist. It was as high as the house!!

I will scan pics and show you tomorrow

So what have you used to hoist a motor. How did you do it and do you have pics? Let's see what you've got!

I use a 2000lb cable hoist. Made in USA.
SuperCrap etc have cheapies for $30 or so. Crappier quality, but still do the job.

i also have a tripod at mums but you need a ute to pick it up as i said i have the blok an tackle here mate sorry i could not get to you things are hectic

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

i have used
1. a frame made out of 2" waterpipe welded together with a 3 pulley block, 2 pulley block and a rope (got some evil pictures of that somewhere - have to dig up so i can post here too)
2. me and my brother lifting the body off the subframe
3. my brother's $200 supercrap engine crane - is the best in terms of control of lift and lower - only hassle is the splay of the legs gets in the way of the wheels.... jack the car up and put it on axle stands solved that one

My mates hoist, circa 1993.

That's my LX Torana, painted by the owner of the bug in the background. No that is NOT me in the pic. That's a mate who lived 2 houses up. The bug owner lived accross the road from him.

I brought that hoist home in my mum's Commondore wagon. The poles stuck out of the front windows like a Jousting lance

you could have done a rain dance around that....and then send smoke signals.

If you had that out the front of a commondoor..I would not have like to be driving around you when taking corners

I have a fold up lifter that was used for lifting old people out of bed, & its perfect for lifting mini engines, folds up compact to, it's a wee little ripper.

we use 2' water pipe clamped together to look like a swing set. it is really high and is only wide enough for a mini. its solid as a rock.

It is great, i used this at my old house when i pulled and put back in my engine, three or four hundred times. This time i will start the bugger on the floor.

3 Tonne Hitachi electric hoist on a powered monorail, with 2 speed hoisting.
