Lindsay,
I do not know any electroplaters in Vic, My advice to You is,
Phone any Electroplaters close to You and ask Them if they
will Plate Die cast (Zinc based diecast ) if they do there is a good chance
that they could help You, If they have not done it before
but will give it ago for You, KEEP LOOKING.

There is a new process that is called spray Chroming
it is not really Chrome but it looks Good,
I do not Know enough about this process to advise You
and I am not sure of the life of it however, It may be worth looking into

Thanks John. I'll ring around.

Is the spray chrome you are talking about called chrome solutions? I have seen this process, I'd say very durable. It's closer to a clear on base automotive paint system, it uses a 2k ground coat, the chrome spray then a 2k clear. I'm a development chemist for Dulux in automotive so I try to keep up with these niche products coming out. Search for chrome solutions on YouTube, worth watching.

I'd recommend Ferntree Gully Platers (actually in Knoxfield). They did the bumpers on my Borgward Isabella and a really nice finish. They do a lot of Mercedes stuff as well.

They are not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Thanks. I don't mind paying good money for a good job.

The more I look at the spray chrome kits the more I'm tempted to give it a go. $220 for a kit posted to the door which does 20 sq ft.
