It's been a long time since I posted anything . Just a quick question I had my mini laying around for almost 16 months , rusting away but it's time to start my restoration again but the first thing to know is how to start the engine again , it's got power but can't crank over , any suggestion would be much appeciated

You need to make sure there is power to two things. The first is the starter motor to turn it over and the second is the +ve on the coil.
Once you have the battery in the car and connected up to the battery cable, look for a white/red wire on the solenoid. You need to put twelve volts onto that terminal to get the starter solenoid to switch the 12 volts to the starter motor. The other is to put 12 volts to the +ve terminal on the coil to provide spark.

12v won't be enough. if it is an old battery try a jump start or new one. also pull the spark plugs out and try cranking it without compression first. this will get the oil pressure back up and confirm it is not seized. it may be worth putting some wd40 in the cylinders overnight if there is any suspicion of it sticking.
