Hey everyone - thought Id ask more locally AU/NSW if anyone has done this -

Anyone have a removable front on their mini , be it fibreglass or metal - flip front or entirely removable unit ?

Im considering a metal removable 2 piece front using the existing body and bonnet. Im aware how to do it and have a plethora of threads off the net to help out , just wondering if anyone has happened to do the same / similar job and how they went with engineering it and ultimately passing for a road registered car.

Any thoughts , thanks !

My engineer (in VIC) won't let any post '71 car have the front removable - it goes against the ADR requirement for the crash protection stuff.
It's do-able, but you have to jump through crazy hoops and the panelwork can't be altered from stock - so in otherwords if you (or me ) with engine conversions have cut the inner guards its a no-go.

Best to check with your man though.

I don't know personally but i would certainly say it depends on where you are. Different places have different regulations. I have considered it myself and if it was going to be an everday car or at least a road car, I would stick with metal due to the drop in safety compared to a fibreglass front. Then what are you gaining? if you can't cut out the inner guards you aren't gaining much room so it's just ease of access. They look cool, sure but seems like a whole lot of trouble to go to for that. Might as well get a quick release bonnet or something.

Cheers for the quick replies - yes Harley good points re:- us with conversions can't be picky :0)
I'm away until the 21st April so I'll pop into my engineers place and see what he thinks. Like all things with these old things you live in hope ;0)
