Post subject:  Winter Blues
Bloody winter.

Okay so a week ago i was driving in heavy rain and it stalled, after spluttering around for quite a bit.

Then today when i washed the car at the car wash it wouldnt start till i sprayed some stuff round the engine (in the dizzy and down the carby).

So... what can i do?

Its obviously water that affects it.

Does a wet coil make any difference?
Wet dizzy obviously does.

Any thoughts/suggestions/solutions greatly appreciated.

i was driving tday and it was absolulty pissin down i was getting sprayed by other cars and it didnt miss all stall once :) stock pulsar coil and dissy works a treat as the cap is o-ringed to the body also my coil is on the front to :wink: gotta love the pulsar dissy

i covered my dissy with an old 2l juice bottle with the top and one side cut out, ever since then its been perfect

Ive been told about the rubber glove mod.

cut off the tips of the fingers, run ure leads through em, wack the hand of the glove over the dizzy.

surgical gloves work a treat. Non obtrusive.......and if breaks, you'll still have 499 spares :D

hmm
i driven in rain that made the water that was washing off the road, look like the tide rolling in at the beach, many times, but it not affect mini.

takling about winter.
hmmm
so i pull out of driveway onto road, car comeing, fair way off, but i go a small bit quicker that usualy, and bang, she was slipping and bouncing and sliding all over the place :shock: :shock: it was a shocker, i didnt even meant to. not so yummy ice :(

i've got a garden glove covering my distributor. teh cloth stops the condensation as well.

It is water shorting out the spark to the plugs.
It is not just the water that causes the problem it can be worn out plugs, old leads, but most of all a build up of grime on the dizzy cap.

Just wipe your fingertip over the dizzy cap and see the gunk on your finger, well that gunk when it gets wet will conduct electricity. If you clean the cap properly it will go a long way to help avoid the problem.

I am running a plastic ice cream tub (a rectangular 2 litre tub) over the front of my dizzy. Every time I service the car I clean the outside of the cap and clean the plug leads.

Just think what is hittng the dizzy as you drive down the road, bugs and dirt and lots of other crap.

My tips for avoiding the problems of wet ignition every time it rains.
1) Make sure that all ignition parts are in good condition.
2) Make sure that everything is clean.
3) Keep it dry by fitting a deflector to stop water hitting the dizzy and coil.

Keep it clean and keep it dry.

Geez, Will...... I told you to make a shield that goes on the back of your grill..... a piece of plastic, a piece of tin, whatever you can find - anything to stop water from directly hitting your dizzy after passing thru the grille...

You got a ram-flo now? May be time to put a water shield over the top of it too....
