A family friend has suggested that these are required in a new build, but the info I have suggest they are for verto clutch arrangements. Can anyone kill this for me?

Painted the engine today. Schmicko.

They are a good idea. If the seal leaks, the `seal protector' (really an oil slinger) keeps the oil off the clutch plate.
I have fitted a few.
