Has anyone got any good links to build threads of people converting vans into utes?

I would be keen to see how its done without looking bad around the rear window/tail gate area.

cheers josh

Hallsey and Dave were doing it a while back - have a look here:

They did a great job on the back of the ute. Unfortunately they never finished, and I don't know what happened to it.

I know what happened to it next - but that doesn't help the story.

I came by a Mini K van sometime ago which the previous owner started work on converting to a Pick-up. I have a saloon roof which I needed to repair a sunroof in the car I am currently working on. The inside of frame of the roof, or Cant Rail P/N HYA1730 & 1731 will be cut down and used to form the back window frame. As well I intend to brace the rear tub area as per UK Pick-up details which is not detailed in AKD3519 - Body Parts List for Van & Pick-up. There are two items detailed, P/N 14A8279, the rear window panel and 14A7562, the panel below the window will need to be made as well.
In NSW it will be necessary to obtain an engineers certificate for the mods in order to have the vehicle registered.
If you send me your email address I will copy the appropriate pages from AKD3519 and send down.
Hope this helps.

I started my pick up with brand new tailgate from KARcraft.

A 67 windowless van and 4 years later its finished.

With a lot of help ( $$$ ) from a local panel shop hot rod builder.

Painted in shadow blue, black trim, plus all the good stuff

End cost was just under $20,000 worth every cent.

Now on Vic club permit, it will pass to my son when I
cannot drive it any moore.

Les

I know there is a specific section in the QLD modification lists that is only for converting a panelvan into a ute, so it can legally be done with a mod plate.

Hey Josh, I know the conversions that used to be done in the early 90's, late 80's utilized an early Toyota Hilux (79-81 2WD) rear window and they looked ok.
