Ive never had a choke connected on my car in the 17yrs Ive owned it. I actually had all the holes in the firewall patched up by in 2000 when I had the car painted. Im curious to know where the choke cable went through the firewall and also how it was set up with twin SU's. Does anyone have any pics of their engine bay showing where the cable goes through the firewall and what is needed at the carbs. ALso pics inside the car where the choke knob is? How necessary is a choke with SU's? Its never below 25 deg when the car is started, its not like we get cold temps up here. I notice pretty much all the needles show the same specs around station 1 and 2 which I guess is for idle, but having the jet move downwards with the choke function must allow a heck of a lot more fuel to make it into the engine from first start. Keen to hear thoughts. |

Cheers for that. Anyone with a round nose got any pics? I notice my LH carb has the fitting for the choke cable to sit into. |

https://www.flickr.com/photos/31275265@ ... otostream/ My car is 3/1970. Note I have a Dellorto on there, but you can see the choke cable in its original position, behind the oil line going to the gauge. The cable is a T handle one, in same pos as in the Clubby shown above. |

Their are two holes on the firewall, inboard of the master cylinders, and Just on top of the cross member shelf. They will be behind each of the twin SU float bowls if you have SUs fitted.This is the spot the choke cable comes through for the round noses which have their choke controls fitted in the switch panel. There's another symmetrically drilled hole on the other side. I've also seen them fitted through here on a few old photos as the choke can be on the passenger side of the switch panel at times depending on preference. The rubber (repro Cooper S) choke cables aren't that long, so one needs to be economical with the cable length. to avoid tight bends. |

There are two holes just above the bulkhead of same size as previously described. |

Yeah problem is those holes don't exist anymore!!! I had them all filled.... |

Righteo, noticed I had a hole on the passenger side that had a grommet in it. I think thats where I ran my temp sender line years ago and didnt get that hole filled. So its currently just an blank grommet which is being un-used, so ran the choke cable on that side. All should still work ok I suspect.

I know I am going to sound like an old Man, and that is probably because I am, But I hope you followed all the correct procedures when you fitted the steering lowering bracket. this is far more important than a lot of people think, if the lowering bracket is simply bolted to the dash then the column pushed down to bolt to the lowering bracket it will be only a matter of time before you need a new inner column. anyone reading this please do not ignore it |

Sure did John. I actually sourced an exchange column from possibly Mini Kingdom back in the day, it had brand spanking new splines on it. I backed off the two U bolts for the rack and let it roll backwards to suit the angle of the steering column. |
