Thinking of replacing my exhaust manifold just for the sake of it. Its been on the car for about 13years now. The current one I think I purchased off Readspeed at Morningside in Brisbane when I was down that way doing my tafe training in about 2000. Engine is 1330cc, GR ported the head back in 2000 and also ground the cam. I dont know the specs. Twin 1 1/4in SU's. 2in Exhaust straight through, Pertronix ignition module, Pertronix Flamethrower coil. The extractors that are currently fitted, the 2 outer pipes form a Y and join midway down the motor and the centre pipe joins that pipe right at the bottom. There is a bracket at the bottom that attaches to the diff case. What is around these days that would be similar or better? |

LCB's like what you have are pretty common and good for most engines (Cooper freeflows are probably better for small bores). The next step is the 3-into-1's which are only good for real fire-breathers - but your build sounds like you've getting there. Like these: http://minisport.com.au/extractor-3-into-1-big-bore-lcb If you have LCB's that go to a 2" outlet you probably won't get that much more out though - but I have never used anything more than LCB's so I'm unsure. Has he compared them to mine? And how can one set of pipes be suitable for every application, truth is they can't. Hate to play devil's advocate but I prefer to source my parts elsewhere. |

Sounds like Ive missed something whilst Ive been away? I always thought GR was the man? Haven't missed anything that I am aware of. But if we all blindly follow the same path you are always one step behind someone else. Ask questions, do your research and make your own informed decision. First question you should ask is why you are changing the pipes to begin with. Are they looking old? Do they need to be freshened up with a coat of paint, or are you after more power, more driveability? What is it your trying to achieve? If that's the case perhaps you should start with altering other things in your engine, or ancillaries to get the desired effect, who knows. |

From the sound of it, I'd say Hanra's pipes are probably just a little bit rusty (the pipe wrap would cause that) and knowing our Hanra, that would cause him sleepless nights ![]() So he's probably just looking to change them out. Ceramic coating on new pipes would be the go. ![]() |

Yeah mate of mine got his pipes HPC coated for his 540ci HQ. Has a really nice finish. So Im just considering changing the pipes out for the sake of it and get a new set HPC coated. Id also like to fit an exhaust that isnt as bloody loud as what Ive currently got. Im not 16 anymore. So maybe just do the entire system whilst Im under the car. |

I bought a set of Karcraft LCBs and had them HPC coated, came up a treat. Don't ask me on specifics on power outputs though, I'll put it down as 'more than before'. And shinier, more importantly. |

My LCB's came painted, but it didn't take long for the paint to wear though and start to rust. So I bought a can of header paint, cleaned off the old rust and used the entire can on them. And they're still rusting through! |

Brad, for your set up, my pick would be a set of maniflow med bore lcb with twin box RC40. That is what I have on the Black S, is nice and quiet (never thought I would ever say that, I ain't 16 anymore either). With the RC40, you can go side exit (like mine) or centre exit. I prefer the side exit. By all means have HPC coated, but before you do, fit them to the head to make sure they bolt up flat and do any filing/adjustment before HPC coating. |

Cheers Steve. I'd still be keen to go centre exit. I actually had that little scallop removed from the passenger side lower valance where the tail pipe tucks up into. Next major problem is finding an exhaust shop to do the work....I've always heard RC40 mentioned throughout the years so I guess it's tried and tested. |

Hmmm couldnt seem to find anything on the MiniSpares website. Lotta stuff for injected cars etc. Ill keep sussing. |
