Hi everyone.

I've just received a FREE 1968 blue mini, great interior and engine though no rego as there's rust in a few spots (front passenger floor rust was the reason for not getting re-rego'ed).

Anyway, I'm totally out of my depth. I've never seen a mini up close before (believe it or not) and I've never owned a car older than 1991.

I'd love to upload pictures of the rust to get advice as I have a near zero budget to fix the rust, though I'm aware that I'll probably have to fork out for a new front passenger floor to be welded in.

Hope to learn lots here as I'd love to get this car rego'ed and go for a drive, as it looks like it would be a hoot to drive...and my kids have fallen in love with it!

Very lucky indeed. Where about's are you located Blue68? You might find some people able to pop over for a bit of a look and some advice.

Have fun, that's what minis are all about.

P.S. What's your location?

You are certainly in the right place for great advise. If others know where you are you'll be surprised how much local help Mini owners are willing to give.

I'm in Sydney. I've previously done minor rust repair (nothing much more than surface rust) though this has some pretty full on rust in parts. With the rust sorted it should be ready for blue-slipping!

I wish it had rego as then I could at least get to a car meet to ask for advice! What's the easiest way to upload photos?

Set up a Photobucket account (or something similar) then just copy the link and paste it in between the double img icon that appears when you tap Img tag just above :D

Might be free but you still got to pay to fix it up to get rego

I'm expecting to pay for a front passenger floor panel and the labor to cut out the old and weld in the new. I'm optimistic that I can do the rest with hard yakka, even if the initial result is ugly (like patches of just primer).

I don't really have a budget for the build, though I'm aiming for $1,000 all up, not including rego (which will be another $700 ish including CTP).

I'll post the pics once I get a photobucket account up!

Ok, here's the pics - first one is the car and then the rust spots.

Sorry, no interior shots and the car is filthy!!!

Blue68 - it's a good idea to put your location in your profile so people don't have to ask all the time. :)

Nice, certainly seen a lot worst sorry to say but I don't think a $1000 is going to go far!

If you are in Sydney come along to our meet up on Wednesday night, check out a few minis and get some ideas.

Looks pretty good at the price you paid, regardless of the rust :-)
