Post subject:  1976 Mini Paint code

I have been racking my brain on this to no avail, throughout all my research on the inter webs I cannot find my original paint code.

I have found that my car hasn't got the original engine in it and according to the plate it's a Leyland Mini sedan EPAI? Any info on what that is would be great.

The plate reads:

MINI 021 D2S1 M09/ 18122

Do any of these numbers represent a paint code?

Your car was built before the EPAI (Exhaust Port Air Injection) came in with ADR 27a in the middle of 1976.
It is a Leyland Mini.

The paint code was on a sticker located next to the compliance plate.

It's probably one of these. Is that the original green paint behind the ADR compliance plate in your photo?

The vehicle has been resprayed at least once and I am unsure whether it is original colour or not.

Thanks for the reply, my mini is a 76 model and I can't find a way to link the chassis plate with any paint codes I've found.

Like I said before the chassis plate has no paint info at all.

MINI 021 D2S1 M09/ 18122
021 = Leyland Mini (YDO21)
D = Manual transmission (compliance code)
2S = 2 door saloon
1 = Trim level 1
M = 4 speed floor change transmission
09 = 998cc engine
18122 = car number.

It's all a beige white colour under carpet and all through the interior but it also looks like it's been paint and by a brush that's how terrible this car is

There are no records showing the original build colour of your car. As others have said, you need to do some detective work on the car itself. If it was completely stripped back to bare metal and painted at some stage then you really have no way of knowing. But cars are often re-sprayed over the top of the previous colour, or are not re-sprayed in areas that are not usually seen or are difficult to get to.

A few suggestions:

1. Remove interior trim and check what colour paint is revealed.
2. Look under the front and back parcel shelves, and under the scuttle (the panel across and under the windscreen).
3. Carefully peel back the headlining to reveal bodywork.
4. Remove paint with a solvent (in a hidden spot) to see what different layers there are underneath.
5. Ignore what colour it was originally and choose something you like.

Our 76 clubby S had a foil sticker that looked exactly like this:

It was located near the compliance plate. Have a hunt around the engine bay, it might have just been painted over?
