It wasn't at the same time as the rod change.
I don't have the dates but the engine prefix changed from the 1000 and 1001 to...
1007 = with the rod-change
1009 = with the pot joints
1010 = change diff ratio to 3.44
1015 = ADR27 = 1st Jan 74.
So there was probably 3 different change points for gearboxes in 73 but it was some time before 74!
What we need is the owners of cars with the engine prefix 1007 and 1009 to post their compliance plate dates. (or maybe Winabbey has some other info?)
Morris - I've been providing John via email with all the information I know or have documented on the introduction of 'pot' joints (official title is 'offset sphere' joints). I've yet to find any change point data in parts books or fiche that pinpoints it to a chassis number or precise date in 1973, so your suggestion of asking the membership for ADR plate data seems the best approach. John has lots of plate photos in his library so may be able to start the ball rolling on this.
If I find anything else I'll post it here.
Morris - on a related topic I note the Mini Clubman Series parts fiche PUB 7 shows engines with
Low Compression as an option for some of the production changes you show above. They have their own unique engine number prefixes, as below. Do you have any knowledge of these optional engines (e.g. were they available for domestic or export)?
Rod Change and Pot Joints - 1011 (a low compression option to 1007 and 1009)
Diff Ratio - 1012 (a low compression option to 1010)
