I haven't pulled the driveshaft out yet, but something doesnt look right.my drive side driveshaft has movement of maybe one inch, side to side, the passenger side has maybe 5mm. Can the mini gurus give me some pointers to potential causes to this.

Is it sliding in and out of the outer CV on the hub you mean?

There are detent rings on the drive shaft which are meant to retain the driveshaft in the CV.

There are similar (but different size) wire circlips that hold the pot joints into the box.

Yep went to kc this morning and a $5.73 round section circlip, solved the problem. The old one was broken into 2, thanks again.

I had one of my own shatter on insertion into the CV last year.

I was able to get a piece of spring steel (Piano wire) I have here for RC aircraft use and formed a ring by bending it around a jack handle into the right diameter.

Seems to have worked nicely!

I think they get scores on them after a few insertions/removals which causes them to fail.
