Post subject: | RE83 - Whose running one? |
With Barney about to breathe flames once more, I'm curious to know who is running a RE83 cam and how they find it. I had originally opted for the RE282 but GR advised accordingly that this is the cam he sticks in race motors. So if you you're running the RE83, what are your overall thoughts? Overall specs are: Out to 1310cc with a 45mm Weber on a 3.5" manifold with 36mm chokes and 60mm trumpets, MK2 inlet valves with the slightest of head development, roller rockers, pulsar dizzy, slightly decked to give 10:1 compression. Any tips on what sort of bhp/torque I should be expecting? Getting excited as we fire up this weekend. |

Laingy's 1377 last year made 101.4HP @ 6000rpm on GR's dyno, same RE83 cam, head spec, valves, 1.3 roller rockers. C/R was around 10.5:1. This was with a single HS6 SU on a Minispares inlet manifold. Here's the plot- https://www.flickr.com/photos/31275265@N05/11770915723/ man, that torque curve is pretty flat... |

I have one in my 998 Cooper engine. Its also called the Diesel cam, for its low down torque. Seems pretty good at what it does, but I haven't another example to try it against sorry... |

I run one in Fitzy too with a 45 weber on a short manifold. Drives pretty sweet down low and still revs a bit |

Graham is currently building up a new Small bore project motor and has been posting articles on his website. He's re-posting the mini experience ones over the next few weeks, but is going to add an update on what is going on with this new motor, what is interesting about it is the range of cams he is going to put in it and test out. I reckon it might be worth a read and a wait to see if one of these new cams will suit you better. Go have a look at his website. |

I got one put into my new 1310 Metro block in my deluxe. I was told it has a nice lump and quite torquey. The engine gets fired for the first time on may 21, so I will let you know then ![]() |

So I should be expecting good things then doc? |

Does anyone know the specs of the RE83? I imagine I'll need to pass this on to a tuner? |

Adjust timing, adjust carb, back to timing, lower idle, adjust timing, raise idle, adjust carb, pull choke, burn hand, fix leaking fuel, drop screwdriver down back of engine, adjust carb, lower idle, bash head on bonnet, choke on exhaust fumes... repeat... |
