What are 12G1507/8 con rods out of? I have a reference for a 1275GT but can't confirm that - Aussie or Pommy? Are they a good quality factory con rod? |

I think you will find they are numbered 12G1506/8 in parts books. [There is a discrepancy of 1 digit between cast or forging numbers, and part numbers. For example, C-AEA648 and 649 are the same race camshaft]. Big journal A series `lumpy cap' rods, used here in late GT, Morris 1100S, 1275 Moke, and 1275LS. They were the rod used here, and also UK before the lighter A+ ones came in ~1980. I confirmed by looking at pics on the web- http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... 0-pistons/ They work OK for most use, but IMO the caps need lightening, I'd mill 8mm off the lumps and rebalance them. Fit new ARP bolts. You want better [aftermarket] rods for a race motor, IMO. |
