I haven't re-skinned a door, yet.

Both got done on my deluxe the new skins weren't the best fit made them work but the outer door handle didn't sit in the right spot affecting the opening of the doors
I would just hunt around for some good doors it will save you in the long run

were they genuine panels (heritage?) or other make?

Doors don't seem to easy to find lately, I certainly want to avoid reskinning, but may be out of luck finding better doors

You cannot buy heritage door skins for the Australian doors. for the deluxe or Cooper S that fit straight on you have to use the door skins for the Mini 850 and do some mods to make them fit, done properly the will do the Job
you can use the same skins on the clubman door but that is a Much bigger modification job
