The last piece of the puzzle seems to be the solenoid. Does anyone know if the standard solenoid can be replaced with something 'modern', i.e. something available from Supercheap so I can start this thing today???????

Are you still using the Gemini starter I put on it?
If so, the Lucas one is not needed. The starter has it's own solenoid as it's a pre-engaged one.

Beware buying aftermarket Lucas style solenoids, I found they are not reliable. My `Echlin' copy one worked for a week or so then gave up whenever the motor was hot. I fitted a Lucas and all was well.

Hi Doc, It now (and has for some time) has a hi torque starter. The Gemini one gave up the ghost a while back.

So is there something available from Supercrap that will get me underway?

You would stand a better chance at Repco I'd say.
`solenoid' brings nothing up at Supercrap.

Isn't the hi-torque one pre-engaged? ie has a small wire to it to it to pull it in? If so just bypass the old original one.

Or someone up there must have a good s/h Mini one. I have 1 or 2 here...

[edit] If the starter is pre-engaged and you just are using the Mini solenoid to switch the starter solenoid's coil current, use a single headlamp relay instead. SCA would have those.
