Anyone around Newcastle that can offer assistance to get this Weber sorted for running in. Earliest I can get in to see John Collins is mid may!I need to get some miles under the belt first anyway. So...who is a Weber guru?

Has the webber been running on this engine previous to rebuild?

what is the new engine spec?

Were you not going to run it in with the SU's?

have you spoken to GR and asked him? he will be the clostst ball park you will ever find.

No the weber is a new addition. It's been to Graham Russell for fettling and we decided to kick off with it on.

• 1310cc
• Engine reconditioned and balanced by HB Sales in Newcastle.
• RE83 cam grind (the diesel cam). This was scaled back on the advice of Graham Russell from the RE282.
• 45mm Weber on a 3.75” manifold with 36mm chokes and 60mm trumpets. Unsure of jets and tubes.
• Tiny bit of head work to open the combustion chamber.
• Slightly decked block, compression ended up around 10:1.
• Double valve springs.
• Corolla rockers.
• Replaced standard Rimflo inlets with 35.7mm MK2S valves.
• Unleaded Rover exhaust valves.
• Pulsar dizzy.
• Geared, hi torque starter.
• Diff change from 3.647 to 3.44.
• Lots of new bits and pieces along the way from water and oil pumps and virtually an entirely new gearbox.
• Standard flywheel.

Some footage of its first words...

i have a 42mm at home i cant recall hat is in it but i was running great on my old 1310 with 731 can about 15 years ago.

what i have seen in books in the past was
Modified 1275
Choke 36-38, Mainjet 165-170, Air Cor 180, Em Tube F2, Pump Jet 45, Idle 50F2, Aux Vent 4.5

I am sure Chong (Lillee) has a 45mm DCOE on his but i think his engine is a little bit higher spec but possibly a good starting point.

Cheers mate. It is a 45mm DCOE. I'll chase up what's in the guts of it.

Chuck it on a trailer and bring it down to GR or Greig, they'll be able to sort a baseline setup for you then chuck the sniffer on it and get it right?

Chong and I are both running a 45 DHLA Dellorto. I have plenty of jets but they don't fit a Weber...
I have a portable A/F ratio meter, but that's no good without having Weber jets..

Don't go any bigger than 36 chokes on a road car, 38s are good only for top end, which you won't get anyway with the RE83 cam in.

G'day Evan , you were running twin SU's before , yep , why don't you put them back on , at least you know they work , then you can get it fired up properly and run in , then you can go to the Weber later on .

Another option would be to source ( borrow ) a good 1-1/2" SU to get it running .

One of the contributing factors for the build was the SUs had seen their day. They are now boxed up.

Ideally I'd like to identify all of the variables in the weber (jets etc) and get it to a place that it will run for 1000k and then get it sorted proper by the man. We just don't have the expertise to fiddle it into an OK place to get on the road!

Wait it out for John C, he will sort it quickly for you. No fuss! Been there Evan... :)
The dizzy might also need a tweek, he will sort that too, my Delortto 45 and pulsar dizzy didn't work well together but after a day at John's it was perfect... you've seen my sprint video at Tamworth :))

Thanks Leigh. I'll report back on the Webers internals and aim for one of these setups.
