Hey

Went to the crash repairs to get a quote on fixing my rust. Seems its going to cost $3000 to fix. Now i dont know what to do, is it worth buying a good shell and transferring everything over? Take note i am a typical girl and dont know how to do any of it myself, how much work is involved? So much that its going to cost me a fortune to transfer? Naughty rusty Mini *mumbles*

Cheers!

$3000 for all the rust

you're better off getting a shell in my opinion or you could treat the rust yourself for a lot less than 3grand.

Okay there is rust in a lot of the corners, and in the seam thingies, and the roof seam thingies whatever they are called. But 3 grand, i almost died! Is that how much it REALLY costs or was he being dodgy?

fixing structural rust is the biggest thing, fixing cosmetic rust you can do yourself..
3 grand is too much..

Sounds like you have some pretty heavy structual rust if it's estimated at 3k.. What type of mini is it? Clubby or roundnose? I'd think getting a shell and transfering would be cheaper

its a clubman i wanted to do up with a bodykit and stuff. i also have a Morris that i could fix the rust for WAY cheaper than that, but its engine is a bit sick atm :( hmm there is a fair few spots where the paint is bubbling and stuff, but sheesh it aint that bad! hehe

I'll be getting and painting a shell (mmm, shiny) for around that I hope.
Transferring is a matter of how well you can work a ratchet.
If you can't, I'm sure somebody will help out for a few cans.

how hard is it to take off all the 'stuff' and put it on a new shell?

your morris has much worse rust in it, fixed by a new floorpan but the clubby has little spots all over the panels which need to be cut out and new bits welded in

It would sound as though the shell is pretty much stuffed. You could buy another Mini and break the first one for spares, or find a Mini with a stuffed motor and transfer your presumably good motor.

It sounds as though you could source new panels from the UK and someone to do it on the cheap, but there is a lot to do by the sounds of it. $3000 sounds like top whack, i.e. a professional job. Someone with time on their hands may find it worthwhile.

Buying a new shell and transferring the parts will be more than buying another good quality 2nd hand mini.

Yeah do fix it.
It will be one more mini that will be relatively rust free and survive for many more years to come.
