I have an 1100 motor with a remote shift gearbox with cross type output shafts and am thinking of swapping the old rubber cross drive system to pot joints. I have a used rod shift gearbox with pot joint drive shafts from a Leyland Mini. Can I just use the diff output shafts and both driveshafts as direct replacements for the cross type output shafts and drive shafts for the conversion or is it more complicated than this? Sorry, you need to pull the diff, fit pot joint output shafts to it, then reassemble. Check the diff pin and spider gears too, replace them if worn bad. Or, you can fit the whole rodchange diff straight in, but if you do the drive pinion needs to be changed. Rodchange is usually 3.44:1, and your 1098 & remote is probably 3.647:1. An alternative is to fit a pair of QL5000 joints if you can find them. These are a direct replacement for the rubber unis. pic credit to Timmy201...

Thanks again Doc I've found an old set of used QL5000 joints in a box of parts I bought. I'll clean them up and if they're OK will put them in instead of the rubber crosses. It sounds a lot simpler than swapping over to pot joints. Regards Dave |

If the UJs inside are worn, pull the cups off and replace them. See the U/J thread for details. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85344 [edit] Fit new U-bolts and don't over-tighten. |

Hi Doc I've cleaned the joints up and regreased them and they look fine, even the rubber cups are OK. I'll use these first and see how they go. Thanks again Dave |
