Post subject:  split exhaust

I have just noticed a vertical split in my tail pipe just after my Cat, other than blowing numerous holes trying to weld it up, and being a stingy old ning nong like Mick, any ideas on how to cover it so its a little quieter would be appreciated, I will eventually have it replaced, but I need a quick fix just for now. PS, its about 4 inches long....

Who's stingy! Just economical...

Trouble with patches is that its more effort to keep it from leaking again.... The gas always seems to persevere and make its way out. A thin piece of alloy (like a ally can) with a few hose clamps to hold it on spring to mind. A muffler shop could run a bead of weld along it as well to seal it up.

Just cut it out and weld a new bit in there that's wat a muffler shop would do

Souldn't be a problem Davo , weren't you wrapping it up and putting it away for the Winter ?

That'll give you about 4 months to save up and buy a new one   .

yeah mate, it is being put into hybernation over the colder months, but its one of those things that seem to get away from you, if you don't do it now, it will come back and haunt you at the start of the ext mini season. There is always that special thing that comes back and bites you on the bum when you least want it to, and this is one of those, Thanks for the hints I will give the Pea a n d Ham, suggestion a run. :-$

Once upon a time I repaired a back of a rusted muffler on a EA Falcon with a bit of thin gal and JB Weld to get
it by rego and it stayed there for nearly a year.
