Hi I recently bought a Moke and fixing some of the issues. Currently the brake lights not working. It's the hydraulic type one. Tail lights work, I've tested the wiring on the switch by jumping it and the brake lights don't light up. Measure these two wires and it's getting 12v What could be the issue? The brake/tail lights have been converted to LED Thanks in advance. |

First thing first if u join the two wires together that go to the switch if they turn on u need to replace the switch if not check and c if one wire is getting 12 volts if it is check the brake light wire at the back which goes to the led lights is also getting power if it is check the earth on the led lights |

I've done that as mentioned in my 1st post Brake lights did nothing I will check the wiring near the lights itself The tail lights works though |

Check the bullet connections in the boot to see if you have power. You need to short out the switch or get an assistant to push the pedal. You have checked the fuses. |

There's a common earth for the brake lights behind the passenger side fuel tank. It has a number of wires going into it. Test at the rear to see if 12 volts is making it to the lights. If it does not, then the next point is the plug above the wiper motor. |

I didn't get a chance to have a look today Checked the fuse all (2) that I can see in the engine bay It's an export Moke so fuel tank at the rear I've jumped / short the two wires coming from the hydraulic switch and the brake light did not lit up One of the wire has 12v as well Will check the earth wire. The earth wire should be the same for the tail lights right ? So if it's bad earth my tail lights won't work? Or is it a separate circuit ? |

I believe there are a couple coming in at that point. Pretty unlikely, but the most important indicator is that there is, or is not, 12 volts at the brake light. Everything follows from that result. It may be the LED lights have failed, or it may be the plug in the engine bay to the rear loom (unlikely), or it might be the common earth point as mentioned, or it might be the connection into the bullet connectors across the rear of the boot. |

Take a constant 12v off the battery to the brakelight with some spare wire, that will show you if its the actual taillight. |

As Mick said - I'd check the common earth. I've had my rear lights stop working, i wiggled the earth wire and bingo - lights work |

The indicators (which are working) also come in on the same termination, so would not work either. I forgot to ask earlier if the park lights are working. They are in the same bulb (alhtough you have LED), and use the same ground wire. If they work, then its the +ve feed to the brake wires, and most likely the brake wire (Red) bullet connector in the boot. If the park lights don't work (but work at the front), as well as the brakes, it will the ground point, or the ground point bullet connectors in the boot (or both LEDs are shot). |

Have you tried normal light bulbs and see if they work |

The tail lights/park lights works Will test the 12v for the brake and see if I can test with normal bulb/ brake light |
