Post subject: | Rear suspension question |
Hi All, I'm rebuilding a rear subframe and have rebuilt the trailing arms but have found the arm support bracket is bent (probably by the monkey that removed it!). I'm unsure if to replace it with a standard type (like this http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Body/Subframes/Fixings_mountings/21A195.aspx) or with an adjustable type (like this http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Suspension/Performance/MS73.aspx). I was thinking adjustable but i'm not sure if it is suitable for a wet subframe? I was pointing towards adjustable from a wheel alignment point of view but unsure if it's worth it for a standard car. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these options? (I'm only using the minispares site for comparison) |

You can use adjustable brackets on hydro or dry cars. Having said that they are not as strong as originals, some are poorly made- adjustments can move. On my cars I decided what rear alignment I wanted, got the toe-in and camber checked both sides, then used trig to work out where the arm holes in the original brackets needed to be moved to. Then I milled each hole in its new position, welded where it was previously and put the slot drill cutter through the hole again. Bolted them on, they are strong and cannot move. I can still adjust toe-in by shims behind the brackets. |

Thanks doc. Yes, I was thinking they don't look as strong as some of the front adjustable stuff. I might see if I can find some original ones. |

But I guess they would survive normal road use OK. The welding is a bit light on, check that out before you fit them. |
