Hi all,
Just wondering has anybody replaced the tail/indicator globes with LED clusters. Do's and don'ts? What is best? where to get?

Any info would be great.

I plan on doing this.

Im just looking on ebay for the bulbs with the most area covered with smd led's. they are the better/brighter type im lead to believe.

BAY15D means dual filament. They have the offset pins and the dual contact. BA15S is the single filament/no pin offset ones.
BA= bayonet Y = offset pins 15=size D/S= dual or single contact

Heaps of them (from china) for around $5 each.

But if you think that other one is expensive Mick, I priced some thru my work from autotechnica. Even with my discount, they were still over $40 each!!! they obviously don't sell many of those.

I have fitted the Mini Mania full LED boards to mine. The board covers the entire blinker, tail light area of the light (removed the divider). Much better than the LED 'bulbs' that you can buy but were very expensive.
Not too sure if they still sell them. Try a search.

EDIT: They were only available for three screw Morris minis.

may not suit Australian Clubman with our Orange reverse light...

(and no idea about ADRs)

Yes the holes in the body are identical, Australia went to the 2 screw lens lamps (made here by Lucas Aust) to get the local content up.

Yea, I noticed that too. But I would think they must have two levels. I will buy a couple in a few weeks and report back.

just be sure they shine brighter for brakes, some the globe changes colour red for lights then change to white to make it brighter for braking, some even flash when brakes are applied but i doubt there legal. red LEDS work best in red lenses as well as orange leds work better in orange lens

Hi, Ive just upgraded ALL my globes to LED.

Got them from ebay from various places for approx $5ea landed. They do look good!

Because I replaced all my indicator globes with LEDS my electronic flasher can didn't like it so I made myself a PIC Micro based Flasher Module. I built in a special Hazard light flash pattern aswell

From Ebay I ended up getting:
16 LED BAY15D's to replace my 21w/5w globes for my stop/tail
16 LED BA15S's to replace my 21w globes for my indicators front and rear and reverse lights
8LED BA9's for the park lights at the front
Also bought pack of 10 T10 LED wedges for my triple guage instrument cluster

SMD just means surface mount device; as opposed to radial which have the two little legs.
They are no better or brighter* and even then there are dozens of different surface mount packages for LEDs.

The ones to go for are PLCC SMD LEDs which are usually square and have a tiny lens built into the package but are more expensive.
The cheap ones are just 0X0X i.e. 3050 packages which aren't designed for brightness like we need in tail lights but are CHEAP.
By comparison one PLCC LED would be brighter than a dozen 0X0X LEDs.
Having said that get a good brand, Luxeon Phillips etc, LEDs are delicate and cheap ones are prone to failure.

Of course all of that is moot since no one seems to show what brand they use but you DO get what you pay for.
Whats everyone doing re flasher cans, is there an LED compatible flasher that would suit a mini?

RE; Flasher unit. I just used an electronic flasher unit, works fine.

When I changed both front and back globes to led it wouldnt even fire up. Maybe I had a faulty flasher but I was under the impresion that flashers needed to see approx 21w of load to flash properly. But it gave me an excuse to put in a custom hazard flash pattern
