Hey guy i have just finished repainting my engine and all the parts for it, put it all back together and filled my radiator up and started the engine and now i have water and anti freeze coming up through the bolt closest to the radiator on the thermostat housing, i have new gaskets and i put gunk in there to try to block it a bit but still coming out any help on fixing this would be great minis been off the road for over 2 months now want to drive it.

so long as all the surfaces were completly clean. I always use permatex #3 I think it is. Put that on the gasket surfaces and any threads of the bolts that go into a water jacket.

Hey yea gaskets are round the right way, its coming up through the bolt hole not out the sides or any other places. I put some gunk down the hole and on the bolt its self and left it then come back. Went ok for the first couple minutes then all the antifreeze come up out near the head of the bolt.

Is the thermostat sitting in its recess properly ?

Is the head or the thermostat housing corroded near the stud holes?
Both should be flat. It will leak like yours if not.

Only on the inside of the head. The rest is good. Never leaked before i took it apart.

Use the paper gasket, not the cork one...
I now use Loctite 515 flange sealant on them.

Its not uncommon for the water to come up the thread of one of the studs that go through to the water jacket.

Do you have an engine steady in the mix, these will corrode and perhaps you dont have enough material on the inside of the bolt holes?
hope you didnt refit the bolts with water in the holes?
fill (one soup spoon will be enough) the cooling system with home brand ground white pepper.
last week i started loosing coolant from the filler neck, ground white pepper and all good.

It's easy once you know how.

I always assemble them with Permatex number 3 on the gaskets and coating the studs.

The Permatex helps prevent corrosion between the steel studs and the aluminium housing.

Could be stripped threads you can use a old briggs and stratton mower head bolt there just a bit longer and might pick up some good thread at the bottom of the bolt hole

I use bolts on mine not studs, with Permatex #3 on the threads. Use of bolts stops the studs jamming in the housing due to corrosion, the act of undoing breaks free any aluminium oxide in there.

BTW some NEW thermostat housings need an 8.5mm drill put through them, as the 3 holes are cast in and are smaller at the top than the studs are...

Swt as ill get some of that permatex #3 and try it, ive got bolts as well i just replaced them with brand new ones i hope this stops this from leaking
