Just been having some troubles with the speedo and cable in a 68 deluxe when I bought the car the speedo didn't work Just put the new cable in and still not working the cable isn't even spinning at the speedo end as I disconnected to see if it was the speedo would it be something in the gearbox making it not spin? any help would be appreciated |

It sounds like it. There is a nylon bush on a spindle that spins around inside the gearbox. The speedo cable fits inside the spindle. They wear out easily so could be spinning freely, or it could be jammed. I would try changing the speedo cable first to ensure it's not kinked, just cas it's easier. If not you need to remove the metal clamp that holds the speedo end unit in place and check it. I will see if I can find my spare one and take a photo for you after dinner |

Forgot to mention, the place in the gearbox where the speedo cable goes into is not easily accessible. Removing the carby (carbies) makes it easier but it is still challenging. |

Take out the 1/4" bolt next to the bottom cable end, wiggle the cable bottom nut around without undoing it. The adaptor plate will lift off with the cable. |

Try the speedo cable end in the shaft that drives it. A bit of wear and they don't drive. |
