Is there a way I can workout if I have a cooper s Hydro bags fitted at the front without removing them? I believe a Cooper S bags rubber top is higher in the cylinder than a standard bag. One method I thought might work would be to use a straight piece of wire down one of the very small holes in the top of the subframe tower and measure the distance down to the rubber top of the displacer. If someone who has a Cooper S who is 100% sure they have s bags fitted could please give me that measurement it would be much appreciated. I need to know what I have fitted because i need to replace a leaky bag, but if bothe bags are 'S' then I will need to replace both front bags so they match. (So I'm actually hoping they are just standard bags fitted) Also can someone confirm that ALL Cooper S bags have a higher rubber, because I just removed 2 bags from a very old known Cooper S subframe and they had silver bands on the hoses ......but the depth to the rubber looks the same as a standard bag?? (someone could have painted the bands on in the past I suppose) Cheers |

Phill - not exactly answering your question but have a read of this thread that might add some data to what you already know. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=84897 ... and this one - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83658 |

Thanks Winabby I did find one of those thanks. I also found this and it sound like the depth of the rubber does not always mean "s" bags. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41713&p=506597&hilit=21A2008#p506597 The possible "s" bags I have are too rusty to read numbers, 'however looking again at those fitted to my car I can just see a green band on the body of the displacer, so I guess it is a standard one. ....next question please.... Once the upper arm is removed how difficult is it to release the displacer from the subframe (with the subframe in the car that is). How often are they jammed, and if so whats the bed method to release. |

They come out pretty easy. Spray up in top with some WD40, then use a hammer to give light tangential blows to the steel body of the bag, where it is fattest. Tap it one way, if no joy tap, it the other. DO NOT hit it hard, there is no need. They are seldom jammed real tight in the bayonet. On the rears, You could probably wrap a leather strap around its middle instead, and grab it in a pair of multigrips. Dunno if there's room on the fronts. |

I pulled some out recently, as doc said just kept tapping gently side to side and I could twist them out by hand. |

Nope it could go in either way, I think. Just looking at the business end of the bags... |
