Bought some brand new door locks from mini spares UK. when I went to fit them they appear to be opposite. is it possible I have been sent locks from a left hand drive vehicle. I would be able to switch side from passenger to driver but there will be no lock on passenger side door unless I put a key lock on door handle.

Yeah, those locks are for LHD, it says so.
You need RHD ones which don't seem listed there.:(

could try opening but i tried that on the old one to not much success
