The original paint would be baked enamel. I don't know the answer about why acetone won't hurt it! |

Hi when i used acetone whilst trying to remove the old contact adhesive the acetone started removing the paint which i believe was original baked enamel. |

Thanks guys The acetone even with the rag very wet does not seem to affect the paint. Will it affect the windscreen rubber as they have painted up to the edge or probably onto that as well. |

Baked enamel is tough stuff. When I was paint stripping the `64 850 around the doors there were 3 colours of acrylic that came off easy, along with hi-fill, but the stripper didn't lift the baked enamel. I then sold the car, the next owner got it soda blasted... ![]() |

Baked enamel is what old steel bathtubs and white goods are painted with I dont think powder coating was around in them days I wouldnt go near the rubbers with acetone |

Strange - most thinners contain acetone, so I would have expected that to take off both the primer and topcoat. |
