Hi all I have a mini that has had the Dash and Parcel Shelf sprayed in Satin Black which I have started removing. The Satin Black top coat comes off with General Purpose thinners (Septone). The Grey Primer is not affected by the Thinners but comes off with Acetone. I have no started cleaning both layers of paint off with the Acetone. What I'm surprised by is that the original Nurburg White does not seem to be affected by the Acetone. Can anyone explain why.

The original paint would be baked enamel. I don't know the answer about why acetone won't hurt it! |

Hi when i used acetone whilst trying to remove the old contact adhesive the acetone started removing the paint which i believe was original baked enamel. |

Thanks guys The acetone even with the rag very wet does not seem to affect the paint. Will it affect the windscreen rubber as they have painted up to the edge or probably onto that as well. |

Baked enamel is tough stuff. When I was paint stripping the `64 850 around the doors there were 3 colours of acrylic that came off easy, along with hi-fill, but the stripper didn't lift the baked enamel. I then sold the car, the next owner got it soda blasted...

Baked enamel is what old steel bathtubs and white goods are painted with I dont think powder coating was around in them days I wouldnt go near the rubbers with acetone |

Strange - most thinners contain acetone, so I would have expected that to take off both the primer and topcoat. |

Spent a few hours cleaning all the Satin Black off and the primer. Back to original finish. Looks much better. What colour should the switch panel be ? It,s currently grey primer.  Phil |

I think the switch panel should be metallic silver. (Silver Birch Metallic) |
