I'm trying to refurbish some mag wheels and I just want some advice on bringing them up to a high mirror like polish. To start with I sandblasted them to clean all the old paint and corrosion off. I've started out with 600 w&d paper but I'm having trouble getting the factory machining marks and some pitting spots out...should I go for a courser paper, 400 w&d :?:

-These are the mags I'm trying to refurbish, due to the curves it's hard to get any power tools in there and keep them square to the metal face. So I've been doing most of the work by hand.

Now I know there not mini mags but I do believe this info will be useful to all us mini boys and trying to polish hard to access surfaces on mini mags.
-My plans were to hand sand them up to a 1200 w&d and then bring out the polishing compound.
-Or should I ditch the w&d sandpaper and buy some buffing wheels for the Dremel or die-grinder and get some polishing compound grits :?:
I don't want to round the edges of the ribs either which is why I've been avoiding the power tools, I can't even get the Dremle in there square to the mag face :? .

Bling king gafmo, where are you?

you might have to stump up the cash for a narrow hand held belt linisher like this

I'd go rougher, I usually start 320 grit or so on alloy, the 600 will remove 320 grit sanding marks pretty quick.
800 grit is about as fine as I use on aluminium usually, autosol polishes up from 800 nicely and it seems to cut and polish faster than 1200 grit or higher

one bugger is you often won't see some marks until final polish, and then have to go back to coarse paper and start over. I usually like to do one wheel at a time, starting with the most scratched one, see how coarse that need to clean up and then follow that process on the other wheels
