I'm trying to refurbish some mag wheels and I just want some advice on bringing them up to a high mirror like polish. To start with I sandblasted them to clean all the old paint and corrosion off. I've started out with 600 w&d paper but I'm having trouble getting the factory machining marks and some pitting spots out...should I go for a courser paper, 400 w&d
[URL=http://s182.photobucket.com/user/kennomini/media/100_6255.jpg.html]-These are the mags I'm trying to refurbish, due to the curves it's hard to get any power tools in there and keep them square to the metal face. So I've been doing most of the work by hand.
Now I know there not mini mags but I do believe this info will be useful to all us mini boys and trying to polish hard to access surfaces on mini mags.
-My plans were to hand sand them up to a 1200 w&d and then bring out the polishing compound.
-Or should I ditch the w&d sandpaper and buy some buffing wheels for the Dremel or die-grinder and get some polishing compound grits
I don't want to round the edges of the ribs either which is why I've been avoiding the power tools, I can't even get the Dremle in there square to the mag face
