Picked up my clubby a few months back and for a 76 its been really well looked after but the question is do i restore or preserve?
Rust wise he's got it in both A panels, healthy amount of surface rust on both the floor pans, firewall has a heavy dose of surface rust and the odd spot on the guttering and beaver panel but none one the panels have been eaten through.
The main reason for asking is the 998 is coming out for a rebuild (blowing smoke and every gasket and seal is leaking seriously leaking) and figured i'll attack the fire wall/ engine bay while i was there but then obviously the knock on effect kicks in, schmick looking engine bay and engine= rest of the body and paint looks rusted, tired and worn thin.

You don't have to look at it while your driving it! :) Spend the money on engine, brakes and suspension, and have fun thrashing it

Probably do a sympathetic resto, repair the rust, paint the areas that need it (buff the rest) and the same on the interior and engine.

I say fix all the rust when you have the engine out....

your taking it off the road, so may as well get a few things done while you are at it.

I think down the track you'll be glad you put in the effort now

That's what i was thinking, if the original panels have lasted this well after 38 years then stop the cancer now and hopefully get another 38 years out of them. Colour would still be the stock white and brown interior. Some where down the line it would of been a daily driver as disc's were fitted and full exhaust system.

Fix the bad rust/rot, but other than that nothing wrong with a bit of patina.
