Wouldnt mind building my 66 deluxe to look as stock as possible (at the least on the outside)
I am having a hard time finding what grille and wheels and trims that it SHOULD have.

down to little details, things like, does it need a folding numberplate bracket on the boot lid?
same door handles as a 850? (as i have a few sets of them)

and would white be an appropriate colour, if so what sort of shade of white?

interior wise Im nto as concerned, as by the time I put a cd player in its not really worth spending money to keep the rest original, however I do have teh 3 gauge center speedo pod that i will use, though unlikely to be smiths gauges.

so anyway, main question is, what should It look like on the outside, what wheels, what trim, what bades, what bumper(overriders?) what exhaust tip/location, what grille, amber or clear front indicators? does the antena go on the roof like my 850?

Thanks in advance.
Leroy.

Paint colours are in the How To section and sales brochures are in Mini Chat.

I am having a hard time finding what grille and wheels and trims that it SHOULD have. Standard Deluxe 7 Slat grill, Stainless Steel, stock steel mini wheels in Metallic Silver Brirch

down to little details, things like, does it need a folding numberplate bracket on the boot lid?
same door handles as a 850? (as i have a few sets of them) Yes, standard hinged number plate. Standard door handles for a wind down window door, there's no mixing of the early Mk Sliding window types or the later flapper handles from 73 on with your 66 doors. So there's only one type for your door. Sliding window handle has a finer handle shape than the wind up window type so stand apart.
and would white be an appropriate colour, if so what sort of shade of white? There's a few shades of white, check the paint section in the How_To as Winnabbey has suggested

interior wise Im nto as concerned, as by the time I put a cd player in its not really worth spending money to keep the rest original, however I do have teh 3 gauge center speedo pod that i will use, though unlikely to be smiths gauges. EDIT: Single speedo only. A number of colour options were available for the interior. I have recently seen blue for the interior which looks quite good.

so anyway, main question is, what should It look like on the outside, what wheels, what trim, what bades, what bumper(overriders?) what exhaust tip/location, what grille, amber or clear front indicators? does the antena go on the roof like my 850? Wheels as above, trim all stainless steel (Bumpers, door window trims, hubcaps, bumpers grille, whiskers and grille surround), simple bumpers only, no overriders (I believe?), grille as above, no antenna anywhere. They weren't fitted as stock, except maybe customer requirement from the dealer perhaps from time to time.

Thanks in advance.
Leroy.

Many thanks! seems I have almost all the parts I need to get started then, aside wheels, everyone seems to have alloys comming out there ears, but I would really like the steel wheels to make it look that little more authentic, plus i think they look better when no wheel arches are fitted.

paint colour code isnt a big worry for me, it was more a 'did they come in white' as i want it white, and i wont eb able to choose the colour exacly as ill be getting a cheap spray done in some white that was left over from another job to keep the cost right down, ill just have to hope its close to an original colour.

what badging should it have?

'MINI DELUXE' on the boot and a standard Morris 'winged' badge on the bonnet?

thanks heaps,
Leroy.

Yes, that's correct. Mini Deluxe and winged Morris badge.

Neat new white paint will look amazing out of the gun, no matter what the shade. The two main whites I think of are the Toga White and later Crystal White. Toga was an offwhite colour, a little like stoneware or porcelain, and crystal white was really stark, bright white.

Stock wheels are a bit of a problem. Yes, everyone does have alloys coming out of their ears. Steels are still plenty about, many lying under piles of junk, but like everything mini they were turfed out so hard and fast that people didn't notice they were desirable again. Watch out for wheels that have rusty beads, although look good on the outside. They will give you trouble with air integrity. The repro hubcaps aren't that expensive from minispares etc and look great.

An option is to pick up a set of repro Cooper S wheels when your budget allows. They are available in silver or white. Very nearly the same with small differences in vent hole placement and lugs. Then you can run 165 width tyres as well http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... itle=WHEEL

I went through the backwards replacement of alloys with stock rims and 145 tyres a little while back. I gotta tell you the lack of grip on roundabouts takes some getting used to  but it is an injection of a little bit of fun all the same.

Thanks again, Maybe ill jsut run the ugly wheels I have untill i can get repro steelies, people want more for second hand steelies than for alloys. . . it baffles my mine. also baffles me how new steelies can be so expensive when i can get load rated steel wheels with custom offset made for my defender powder coated for nearly a third of the new price in Australia for mini steelies 0_0 pitty the same company wont do steelies for the mini (have asked)

Leroy.

Its been like that. The steel wheel thing caught me by surprise as well. Its probably a very normal progression for all car types as they get old. Not everyone can sit on vast piles of cheap spares for the chance someone will give them 10 bucks each every few years. They eventually scrap them all, and usually at the same time people want to go back from alloy to steel.

Cooper S wheels used to be common as dirt once too,and were quite cheap as a set. That changed around 2000 sometime. The repro Cooper S wheels have eased this market price somewhat.

Ok, that would explain how I manage to have accumulated so many overriders :)
